Welcome to Enstone Conservation Trust’s (ENCON) new competition for the three primary schools in our area – Enstone, Middle Barton and Great Tew. That’s you! We’ve called the competition ‘Where We Live!’ and we’re looking for your best photos across four categories:
- Wildlife – ducks, robins, bugs, butterflies, foxes – whatever you fancy
- Flora – wildflowers, trees and bushes or even mushrooms and toadstools
- Buildings & heritage – how about churches, old houses, drystone walls, farm buildings
- Landscape – local fields or woods, maybe the river in your village
Over Easter, head out with your parents/carers and use their mobile phone or tablet to take photos of why you think this is a great place to live and go to school. Or maybe you already have some great photos. That’s fine, you can enter those as well. You can enter as many categories as you want but just one is fine, and you can enter up to two photos for each category. You can upload your photo(s) at www.encon.org.uk with the adult’s help and they’ll need to give their email address so we can let them, and your school, know if you have won.
We have divided the competition into two sections: A) Reception and years 1 to 3 and B) Years 4, 5 and 6. There’ll be a winner for each section and for each category plus a highly commended for each school. Plus, our friends at Enstone Eco will be awarding a winner for the photo that shows just how biodiverse where we live is – that’s the whole mix of wild animals, plants and natural environment. And there will be one overall winner - that could be you!
If you are lucky enough to win, you’ll get a framed copy of your photo plus a special photobook with all the winning entries – including yours! Plus, all the winners will get a £5 book token from our friends at Jaffe & Neale Bookshop in Chipping Norton. Even if you don’t win, all the photos will be in a special gallery on the ENCON website so you can show your friends and family. We will be announcing the winners at a prizegiving in Enstone Parish Hall on 19th May when one of our great judges will be awarding the prizes.
When you enter the competition, you can help your school do even more for the environment. As well as the prizes for winning pupils, we’ll be donating money to each school to help fund eco projects. Each school will get £50 once there are 10 or more entries from their pupils and one lucky school will get another £50 if the overall winner comes from their school.
You will need to upload your photos on to the ENCON website (www.encon.org.uk) by 22nd April – just after the Easter holidays and the website is open now!
If you or your parents/carers have any questions then just email us on
Good luck!
